Lil Wayne’s Leaked Rebirth Delivers On Promise Of Rock

Lil Waynes Leaked Rebirth Delivers On Promise Of Rock

Over the past year, the once ubiquitous white Styrofoam cup that never seemed to leave Lil Wayne’s hand has mostly been replaced (in public anyway) with an electric guitar. And if there was any confusion remaining about whether the MC’s long-delayed new album, Rebirth, would really take him to the rock side, the full-album leak of the disc on Wednesday put those questions to rest.

Just hours after news emerged that around 500 Amazon.com customers who had pre-ordered the album had received it this week — despite the recent push back of the official street date to February 1 — the full 12-track effort began popping up on the Internet. While Wayne’s label would not comment on the Amazon mix-up and did not return requests for confirmation that the dozen leaked songs are in fact the final track listing for the disc, the mastered-sounding tracks appear to be the final product.

Liberally splashed with squealing, multitracked guitars; mostly live-sounding, thunderous rock drums and tempos that range from hard rock to ska to new wave and punk, the album mixes Wayne’s signature studio-tweaked spaceman rhymes and twisty flow with the raw, live attack of the band he took on the road this summer on his Young Money outing.

Fans are already familiar with “Drop the World,” the scowling, explosive collabo with Eminem that leaked earlier this week, as well as one of the first singles from the disc, the pseudo-metal grinder “Prom Queen,” which dropped in January and is one of three songs to feature singer Shanell.

The “Young Money Princess” helps kick off the album on “American Star,” a slow-rolling Chicago blues bubbler on which Wayne describes himself as “a dope boy with a guitar,” and sings in a strained voice, “I was born and raised in the U.S.A., where my president is b-l-a-c-k.”

Two other leaked songs followers will know also made the cut, the trippy funk tune “Da Da Da” and “On Fire,” which rides on top of a “Flashdance”-style 1980s keyboard riff and rat-a-tat machine-gun drums.

But it’s the songs you haven’t heard yet that might surprise even the most loyal Wayne-iacs. “Get a Life” is reminiscent of a mid-1980s new wave song, with a bright, choppy guitar riff and Wayne teasing, “F— you, get a life” to people who won’t leave him alone, while “Ground Zero” switches things up with a dark grunge vibe. “I started on the block and that’s something to build on/ But how can I pray when I got nothin’ to kneel on?” Wayne breathlessly spits in a rapid-fire delivery over echoing, Jane’s Addiction-like tribal drums and the ominous drone of electric guitars,” adding “Let’s jump out a window/ Let’s jump off a building, baby,” in a near-whisper during the bridge.

He hooks up with another protégé, guitarist Kevin Rudolf, on the molasses-thick pop/nu-metal landslide “One Way Trip,” where he finds even more ways to describe how you will never be him over booming drums from Blink-182’s Travis Barker. “Drown in my flow, motherf—er/ Bring your swimming trunks,” he snarls, adding, “Have a ball until I fall, though/ And if I die today I bet the world end tomorrow … So check your watch, I’m strong as scotch/ Papa was a rolling stone, I was born to rock.”

The album also features the dark, live-fast-die-young rock ballad “Paradice,” the blitzing Bad Brains-esque punk ranter “The Price is Wrong,” one of the hardest, fastest songs Wayne has released so far and another Shanell tune, the soaring rap metal ballad “Runnin’,” on which Wayne proves again that nothing can restrain him, especially not the rules of the English language. “This is my testification/ I’ma rain on they heads like precipitation,” he growls, “And in hell do you need justification/ But for me it was just a vacation.”

To be sure, Wayne further cements his reputation as one of our most gifted rappers on the album, floating his signature flow on a rainbow galaxy of unexpected musical looks — none of them more out-there than a hook-up with another Young Money star-in-the-making, Nicki Minaj, who trades verses with him on the hyper, No Doubt-like pop ska raver “Knockout.” On that tune, Wayne mostly abandons rhyming for Auto-Tuned singing, yelping out lines like, “Cuz once you go black/ you never go back … and once you go white/ Everyone else is wack.”

Wayne’s label has not yet announced what it plans to do in response to the accidental shipment of the album. But MTV News’ #5 Man of the Year, who is slated to be sentenced on February 9 on gun charges, is continuing on with business as usual, launching a tour Thursday (December 17) with his Young Money crew for a string of dates that will keep them on the road through January.

Via MTV, and people keep asking me “Do I know Rebirth or We Are Young Money leaked?” and “Why haven’t you posted up the albums on the front page?” etc. The answer is simple – I’m not posting up anymore leaks from the album. If you downloaded Rebirth, that’s cool – just don’t forget to buy it from your stores on February 1st.

Birdman Talks Priceless & Lil Wayne’s Jail Time

Birdman Talks Priceless & Lil Waynes Jail Time

Lil Wayne is facing a year behind bars in February, but don’t expect either the rapper or his label, Cash Money, to fall off the radar in his absence.

Birdman, who is the co-founder of Cash Money, already has a plan in place to keep both the label and rap’s top-selling artist in the limelight. Birdman recently released his own album, ”Pricele$$,” and a new Lil Wayne CD is planned for release soon; albums by rappers Drake and Bow Wow are to come early next year. They also have the hot singer Jay Sean, who had a No. 1 hit with Lil Wayne, ”Down.”

Still, Birdman’s biggest concern isn’t about Cash Money — he’s grappling with how to deal with the pending imprisonment of Lil Wayne, who pleaded guilty last month to an illegal weapons charge. Birdman discovered the 27-year-old rapper at age 11 and often refers to him as ”my son.”

The Associated Press: What is the premise behind your CD’s first single, ”Always Strapped,” featuring Lil Wayne and Mack Maine?

Birdman: My philosophy for ”Strapped” ain’t just about a gun. You could be strapped about life. I think people just took to it. The music and beat was hot, the content of the song. All of it.

AP: Where do you see yourself fitting in the rap paradigm — obviously Lil Wayne is on top. Do you care anymore?

Birdman: I love to still do it. I could be doing a lot of other things. But I love being an artist. I love the other things like dealing with my son Wayne and his music. It’s half and half.

AP: Lil Wayne emerged as the best-selling figure in music after last year’s success of ”Tha Carter III.” Now, he’ll have to spend a year in jail. How do you think being incarcerated will effect his career?

Birdman: My son is the most rapping (expletive) on earth. But at this point, I don’t care about that. Forget rap. It’s about him right now. I got to deal with a situation I’ve never had to deal with in my life. It ain’t cool with me, but we have to live through it.

AP: After Lil Wayne left the courthouse, what kind of advice did you give him?

Birdman: To keep doing what he loves — music. That’s the only thing we’ve got. You take that away from us, we really don’t need to live. Music, that’s the only thing that gets the stress off your mind to make you feel better. It’s how good it sounds after you’ve done it. The enjoyment of it.

AP: Will Lil Wayne continue to release music while he’s in jail?

Birdman: Of course. I don’t know how many, bruh. It’s up to him. It’s his world. My son is his own boss. Whatever he wants to do, we’ll back him up.

AP: Lil Wayne is easily the mainstay for Cash Money. When he’s gone, will your record label suffer?

Birdman: Not as a company. But we will suffer in losing my son Wayne, who we love. Him as a person means more to me than anything.

AP: Up-and-coming rapper Drake is becoming more popular. Do you see him being a bigger star than Lil Wayne?

Birdman: Drake is already a superstar.

AP: But as big as Wayne?

Birdman: That’s 20 years from now. Hopefully, he’ll be bigger. That’s what we’re striving for. We ain’t tripping. We’re working hard for him to be bigger than anyone else. We want the best for him.

AP: How does Cash Money compare to other rap label empires?

Birdman: Now, I don’t see any top labels. I look around and see all those people who did it before me. To me, the labels, I don’t see no company with constant success with a clique. At some point, there was a lot of people doing this. It used to be crowded. I see a lot of people who have done it, and now don’t see them.

Lil Wayne Covers Billboard Magazine + Info On Rebirth

Lil Wayne Covers Billboard Magazine + Info On Rebirth

Given earlier leaks from the project, did you make many changes to the final version?
As of now Rebirth is coming out as a double disc with a [disc of songs] by Young Money. I had to add new cuts because a lot of things leaked, making people think they had an idea of what I was doing with Rebirth and what it would sound like. And I hated that because I never want anybody to think they know what I’m doing until I present it. So what I did was make it totally different I flipped it.

Does the album still lean toward rock?
Yes, the album is still rock. I play guitar on 80% of the songs and there’s a lot of rock influences and rock beats. I also have Travis Barker on the album. But I don’t want people to think I’m trying to do something I can’t do. Don’t think you’re going to put on the album and hear me screaming and singing . . . Don’t worry about that [laughs]. When people hear me say rock, they may get a little scared like, Oh, God. What is he going to do? When I said I was doing a rock album, it was about doing a freedom thing. This album isn’t hip-hop. When I do my Carter albums, I know I’ve got to rap, I know I’ve got to spit. I know the words I’ve got to say and the subjects I’ve got to talk about. I also know the things I shouldn’t say, the things I shouldn’t talk about. There’s none of those limits on this album. I say what I want, how I want. That’s what this album is: a freedom album. And rock is the avenue that gives you that freedom. I’m just having fun, that’s all. Trust me: People will like these songs. It’s my job to make them love them, but I know for a fact they’ll like them.

Drake Reacts To Lil Wayne’s Jail Sentence

Drake Reacts To Lil Waynes Jail Sentence

Weezy is not dwelling on his impending prison stint and is instead using his time to focus on what he does best, making music and money. “He’s dealing with it well. Wayne’s not usually gonna open up emotionally and tell you how he’s really feeling about anything,” Drizzy tells Rap-Up.com. “He’s kinda more concerned about getting as much music as he possibly can, so that when he’s in there, people are still satisfied musically with Lil Wayne product, and that’s just the mind of a true businessman.”

Drake, who’s set to release his debut album Thank Me Later early next year, will keep business booming in Weezy’s absence. “I’ll just do what I can to keep the whole Young Money/Cash Money team going, and I just want to play my part as a team member and keep the brand strong until the boss gets home.”

Despite the circumstances, Drizzy’s cohort remains in high spirits. “We spoke last night, but it wasn’t about that though. He was making jokes. He was in a good mood. He’s always in a good mood when he’s in the studiomaking music ,” shares the 23-year-old Canadian. “He’s like superhuman. I don’t think anything could really break his concentration or his zone when he’s in there.”

The rappers will link up next week when Young Money shoots the video for “Bed Rock.” “I get to see him next week, so hopefully I’ll be able to gauge where he’s at mentally, but I think he’s alright.”

The sentencing came as a surprise to Drake, but he believes the end result will be beneficial. “I definitely didn’t think this would be the outcome of it, but I hope it will add to him selling a million records again.” He has faith that Wayne can turn a negative into a positive. “It’s an unfortunate situation and I hope that he’ll be able to position it where his release is a day where everyone’s excited and they’re just excited about his new album. I hope he manages to market it the right way.”

Before he checks into prison, Lil Wayne will drop his long-awaited Rebirth album and the Young Money compilation, We Are Young Money, on December 15. A leaked version of his mixtape No Ceilings is available now.

Props Rap-Up, and the full version of No Ceilings should be dropping later tonight on WeAreYoungMoney.com or YoungMoneyEnt.com :?: I’m not 100% sure, but one of them might be the official websites.

Lil Wayne Gets Made Into A Cake + Replaces Flo Rida On Shakira’s Album + Parties With Nelly

So, yes. This is a real cake, made by a real bakery in Beverly Hills. And yes, it was created for a famous person. Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger’s daughter, to be exact. Licorice dreads! Those eyebrows! What part of his face would you even eat first?? I ask you.

Props Idolator, and hit the jump to read about Shakira replacing Flo Rida for Lil Wayne on her album and Weezy partying it up with Nelly in Miami.

Lil Wayne Replaces Flo Rida on Shakira’s “Give It Up to Me” Single:

Timbaland was originally supposed to rap on the track until Flo Rida replaced him. Then Lil Wayne came into the picture. “Everyone’s breath was taken away when Lil Wayne said he wanted to jump on the record,” said Amanda Ghost, the head of Shakira’s label Epic Records.

The rapper and Colombian bombshell only met once before briefly when they landed at an airport in the Bahamas at the same time. “This is the modern approach to things, with so little time and so much going on,” Shakira told the magazine. “I guess I’ll see him when we shoot the video.” (Rap-Up)

Lil Wayne Parties With Nelly:

Lil Wayne is enjoying his freedom before he starts a jail term for possessing an illegal gun. The rap superstar — who pleaded guilty last week to possessing a .40-caliber semi-automatic cops found in a Louis Vuitton bag on his tour bus outside the Beacon Theatre — was spotted at Miami hot spot Liv on Sunday night. A spy said Wayne was living it up alongside rapper Nelly and added, “They were with a big group of women and stayed until 4 a.m.” Wayne needs to get all his partying done before February’s sentencing, when he’s expected to be handed a year in jail. Rick Ross, Drama, Juelz Santana, Khaled, Jim Jones, Slim Thug & Toya Speak On Weezy’s Guilty Plea

Rick Ross: “It hurt us,” Rick Ross said. The Bawse had just gotten off a plane to Los Angeles on Thursday morning when he heard about Wayne’s plea. “We strategize and work towards this for so long, and when something like that, a major inconvenience such as that, nine people out of 10, that stint could hurt them. But I think Wayne has a unique situation with his Cash Money family and now his Young Money roster, I know they got a lot of things poppin’. Wayne’s got enough music. He’s one of the few artists I feel could eat those 10 months up, or that year, and then come home to rap royalty. If anybody is gonna be able to do it, it’s gonna be Wayne.” It most definitely could have been a lot worse,” Ross added. “But Lil Wayne and his camp, his music is gonna remain visible and relevant. He’s gonna handle his business and come home like a boss. Believe that. This is finnin’ to take him to a whole ‘nother creative point,” Ross continued. “To have time to sit down … I can imagine how many records and choruses he’s gonna write. Knowing Wayne, he’s gonna release a mixtape from behind bars. He’ll be right back with a new energy and he’ll have the streets excited. People are going to want to hear what he has to say and speak his experience and speak to the youth.”

DJ Drama: “I was shocked,” Drama said of the news about his collaborator. “It was ironic because when I got the e-mail, I was taking a break from shooting a CNN special about black men in America since President Obama’s election. Then here we are halfway through shooting that, and I get a e-mail about Lil Wayne possibly facing jail time. One of the world’s most popular music stars? It’s crazy. Not to take anything from the actual charge or the conflicts of guns, but we all can bear witness to the racist tactics of the hip-hop police, specifically in New York. I remember numerous occasions, doing my promo during my album’s run. They were outside the venues just clearly looking for situations. I can imagine on that night or any given night with the most heralded stars — the 50 Cents, the Lil Waynes — the aggressive nature, they came down on those guys. The system is not even fair to that extent. People can say ‘Don’t do the crime, do the time’ or ‘Don’t carry weapons,’ yadda, yadda, yadda,” he continued. “These cops are coming so strategically at these artists to make these headlines, to make these statements … it’s plain and simple wrong. So much time and effort is put into putting our music stars behind bars, they still ain’t find out who killed Tupac and Biggie.”

Jim Jones: “Thts crazy lil Wayne gets a year for a hand pistol and ti gets the same time for having army issued rifles wit silencers U tell me WTF”

Juelz Santana: “I’m pissed off,” Santana said on Thursday morning. Coincidentally, he was in Wayne’s hometown of New Orleans filming his first movie, ‘Video Girl’, with Meagan Good. “They totally violated my man. I been trying to call my man all morning. I’m offended! I’m offended, for one, that it happened in New York City. That was some bullshit. I don’t know the situation as far as what happened on the bus, but at the end of the day, Weezy shouldn’t be going to jail for nothing right now. Even as rappers, we out here on defense,” he added. “We ain’t out here hurting nobody. We go to shows picking up 50, 60, probably hundreds of thousands of dollars. Cash money! At the end of the day, you on the bus with however many people was there, how do the officers assume that it’s Lil Wayne’s gun?”

DJ Khaled: “Lil Wayne is a great friend of mine,” said DJ Khaled, who had just heard the news. “He’s a brother and he’s helped so many people. He’s helped so many people, the public, his city. Musically, he’s helped other artists. He’s just a great person on the whole. He’s gonna be good no matter what, ’cause Lil Wayne’s so blessed, but the news has got me disturbed. When you do so much good for the world, make music to inspire young kids and give back to the community, to put a man away like that for eight months to a year …” Khaled trailed off before continuing. “Lil Wayne is great person. It’s just wack that people have to go through these trials and tribulations. Wayne is gonna be all right because God is with him,” Khaled insisted. “Us as hip-hop fans, we gotta support him when times are hard, too. I tell everybody you can’t turn your back on somebody. I’m gonna ride with Wayne forever. I’m gonna play his music whether it’s in the club, the radio or in my car. It’s gonna be like he’s got an album coming out every week.”

Slim Thug: “That’s some bulls**t how the police try to make an example out of Black celebs,” the Houston rapper tweeted. “Lil Wayne wasn’t holding the gun; they got on his bus, didn’t even know which one he was; after they found him they gave him the case. It’s Lil’ Wayne if he is on the bus somebody needs to have a gun his lil ass can’t fight a muthaf***a off. Cortez, Lil’ Wayne manager, said on VH1’s Behind the Music that that’s his gun. It’s in his name but they still gave Wayne the case. OJ in jail for tryna get his own s**t back,” Slim Thug continued. “Plaxico got 3 yrs for shooting himself, Vick got 2yrs and lost all his money for fighting dogs. If any of these people wasn’t successful black men they would not be in trouble or facing that big of a sentence. I know y’all might like dogs, but no dog is worth 100 million I been to dog fights saw people get caught and get rt out.”

Toya (Wayne’s ex-wife): “I swear I hate fake n***as,” she tweeted minutes after news of the verdict spread across the internet. “When s**t all good, everybody around, but when u down, nobody wants to b around… pray for Wayne y’all.”

Birdman talks about Jay Sean and repeats his Jay-Z comments on BET 106 & Park:

Jay Sean speaks to FillingTheVoid about the photo of Birdman and Lil Wayne ’sharing a kiss’:

British singer and Cash Money artist Jay Sean has said that he thinks the photo of Lil Wayne apparently sharing a kiss with his mentor Birdman was “misconstrued”. The rising singer was signed to Birdman’s Cash Money label last year and recently scored a US number one with his song Down featuring label mate Lil Wayne. Speaking about the infamous picture that appeared to show Birdman kissing his protege on the lips, Jay Sean told FillingTheVoid: “I haven’t discussed that [photo] with either of them, but I know that they have a relationship that’s like father and son and I’ve witnessed that myself. Birdman often talks about Wayne as his son and personally, I think that photo got completely misconstrued. I think they were going for a hug, that’s what it looked like. But I don’t know – I don’t care.” The singer added that his relationship with Wayne is more professional than personal. “We have a friendship, but I’m never gonna get that deep and start asking him personal questions. I think you’ve got to respect people’s boundaries. I’ve never been a really nosy person anyway.”

Looks Like Lil Wayne Will Be Going To Prison (Pleads Guilty)

Rapper Lil Wayne pleaded guilty to attempted weapons possession charges today (October 22).

As reported earlier, the rapper is expected to receive a maximum sentence of one year in jail, although he is expected to serve around eight months in prison for the offense.

The rapper had previously pleaded not guilty to the charges, but changed the plea to avoid a trial that was due to start January 20 and could have resulted in at least 3 ½ years in prison.

The guilty plea stems from an incident in New York in 2007, after police found a .40 caliber handgun during a search of his tour bus.

Originally, lawyers for Wayne planned to contest the charges.

Yesterday (October 21), the plea was entered after Wayne’s DNA evidence was allegedly found on the weapon and deemed admissible by a judge.

The DNA evidence found was reportedly small, and Wayne’s lawyers initially sparred with the prosecution over whether the DNA profiling technique used was scientifically acceptable.

Before the trial, Lil Wayne’s manager had publicly taken responsibility for the gun on the rapper’s VH1 special.

Lil Wayne, 27, also faces a trial in Arizona for felony drug possession and weapons charges, after a 2008 arrest during a routine stop at a U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint.

Via AHH and this is terrible news :( He will probably have to cut his dreads, and you can view a video below of Lil Wayne turning up to court earlier:
